Dual-energy absorptiometry (DEXA or DXA) is the most accurate way to know your body. It is trusted as the gold standard for body composition analysis by medicine and science.
DEXA is FDA-approved and quantifies your body composition and skeletal health, including your visceral fat, which correlates to common heart and metabolic diseases
A DEXA scan is simple to do, and it is significantly more precise than other methods (including BMI, InBody, BIA, BodPod, and hydrostatic weighing).
Get 400+ measurements and insights of key areas of your body, including circumferences, lengths, widths, and volumes.
Reveal imbalances in muscle symmetry, strength, flexibility, and joint mechanics.
Research, medicine, and elite sports teams use 3D body analysis to track body measurements.
Next, we make it easy to monitor how your body and health are changing throughout your journey, so you can trust what you’re doing is working.
Finally, we use machine learning and AI on our database of millions of data points to get you insights that help you identify the best way to eat, exercise, and live.
Optimizing your Vo2max improves your body’s power grid. It strengthens your heart, improves blood flow and metabolism, and makes your muscles more efficient.
Overexertion is counterproductive to good health and fitness and it can cause injury, prolong recovery, and add unnecessary stress your immune system.
Vo2max is a more reliable longevity indicator than factors like tobacco use, blood pressure, and cholesterol. A lower VO2max means lower energy levels and higher disease risks.
Learn how efficient your body is at converting food to energy. Identify your body’s primary source of fuel.
Learn if you have a slowed metabolism to understand weight loss plateaus.
Understand how the food you eat affects your body fat, lean mass, and skeletal health.
I’ve used various body scans & do performance tests over the years as a way to check in on my health & fitness. But I get particularly excited if it measures my body fat Percentage. What @dexafitasia can do is a bit more & comes in handy for women in particular. The Dexa Scan experience is akin to an MRI although less scary. As you lay down during the 5min scan, it can also measure your bone density aside from the usual muscles & body fat readings. Having that information helps us gauge our risk for osteoporosis. Happy to report that my bones are still pretty strong & that my muscle imbalance isn’t as bad as I thought!
Finally, I was able to get a DEXA scan directly and promptly, at DexaFit’s first diagnostic center in Singapore at DexaFit Asia located at Royal Square (Novena)! 😀
I went for my series of tests to get thorough insights into my fitness level. The DEXA scan gives complete data on my lean and fat distribution, as well as my bone mineral density. 👍🏼 It’s very comfortable too since I just had to lay there and not do anything 😄
If Dexa wasn’t relaxing enough… next came a test which I almost fell asleep whilst doing it😆… The Resting Metabolic Rate test measured my exact number of calories burned, yes, at rest. 👊🏼 Awesome!
My next station was the 3D scan, which captured key body measurements such as the circumference, lengths and widths. From here, I could identify clearly where the muscle imbalances are and a good view of my overall postural structure.
Ok here comes the crunch. The VO2max test demanded the most effort: me running on the treadmill 😅. But the test provided me the precise value of exercise intensity level for my body which I am able to use to optimize my performance. I know now the exact time frame my body starts to burn fat and improve my cardiovascular health.
Last week I was at @dexafitasia to visit the latest team in the fitness scene! @jimmytiu and his team was friendly & took time to show me around the new clinic. I even got to experience the tests!
These 3 were the most interesting & provided useful insights for me.
1. DEXA Scan
DEXA is FDA-approved and quantifies your body composition and skeletal health, including your visceral fat, which correlates to common heart and metabolic diseases. It is more precise than inBody, BMI, caliper & etc.
The scan was a comfortable 7min process. A little printout with my skeleton was given to me at the end of it. I could see exactly how I looked like inside, kinda freaky but also intriguing! My bones were only 2.3kg as compared to 3.5kg when i was 17! Osteoporosis? But 2.3kg was normal. So pheeeww!
It also showed me where all the fats were including the ones that weren’t visible to the eyes. I saw some on my trunk and it freaked me out. As a trainer, we know superficial fats are basically a result of a well controlled diet. But visceral is a different thing. It made me spent a whole weekend researching for more info. I’m determined to reverse that test! 🔥
2.RMR test
Resting Metabolic Rate test. If you saw my stories on Mon, I was wearing a really tight mask that not only squished my chubby face but also made me look like I was on life support 😅
RMR tests how efficient a person’s metabolism is at converting food to fuel. My consultant later explained what the numbers meant and what to do about it etc. I.e.: slow metabolism vs fat loss plateaus.
3. VO2max test
VO2max refers to the max amount of oxygen you can utilize during exercise. It is used to test aerobic endurance before and at the end of a training cycle.
Optimizing your VO2max improves your body’s power grid. It strengthens your heart, improves blood flow, metabolism, and makes your muscles more efficient. A lower VO2max means lower energy levels and higher disease risks.
This test took my breath away, literally. It was a 10min run. From warm up to whatever incline u can endure.
All in all, my trip was extremely insightful.
